At its simplest, an EPG is a grid: channels down one side, time blocks across the top, and show titles filling in the squares, usually with a short description available on tap or click. Most players highlight what's live right now and let you scroll forward to see the rest of the day or week ahead.

How EPG Data Reaches Your Player

Technically, program data is delivered in a format called XMLTV. With an Xtream Codes login, that data is typically pulled in automatically alongside your channel list, with no extra step required. With an M3U-only setup, the guide is sometimes a separate piece — you may need to add its own XMLTV URL inside the player's settings for the schedule to appear.

EPG and Catch-Up TV — How They're Related

Catch-up, or being able to rewind and watch something that already aired, depends on the EPG knowing exactly what played and when. • Give the app time to sync — some players only refresh the guide every few hours.

• Restart the app to force a fresh fetch of the guide data.
