How to Install IPTV on Android TV

March 11, 20268 min read

Installing an IPTV player on Android TV usually takes just a few minutes, and which method you use depends on whether your chosen app is listed in the Play Store or needs to be sideloaded. Both approaches are fully supported by Android TV and lead to the same result: a player app ready for your IPTVON login.

If you haven't settled on an app yet, our guide to IPTV for Android TV covers the bigger picture, including performance tips for different hardware.

Method 1: Installing From the Play Store

  • From the Android TV home screen, select the Apps row or the search icon
  • Search for your chosen player, such as IPTV Smarters Pro or XCIPTV
  • Select the app and choose Install
  • Once installation finishes, select Open, or find the app icon on your home screen

Method 2: Sideloading an APK

Some players aren't listed in the Play Store and need to be installed manually. This is a normal part of using Android TV rather than a workaround, and only takes one extra app.

  • Install Downloader from the Play Store
  • Open Downloader and enter the player app's official APK download URL
  • Select Go and wait for the file to download
  • When prompted to allow installs from this source, confirm, then select Install
  • Once installed, open the app from your Downloads list or home screen

Logging Into IPTVON

With your player installed, open it and look for an option labeled Add User, Login or Xtream Codes API. Enter the server URL, username and password exactly as they appear in your IPTVON welcome message, or select the M3U option if you were sent a playlist link instead. Save the profile and give the app a moment to load your live channels, VOD library and EPG. For more detail on this step, see our guide to adding Xtream Codes.

If the Install Doesn't Go Smoothly

  • App not found in the Play Store: confirm you're signed into a Google account and connected to the internet
  • Downloader can't reach the APK URL: double-check the address for typos, since there's no autocomplete
  • Install blocked by a permissions prompt: allow installs from that source when asked, then try again
  • App installs but crashes on open: uninstall, restart the device, and reinstall rather than repairing it

Frequently Asked Questions

Use the Play Store if your chosen player is listed there, since it's the simpler route and updates automatically. Sideload with Downloader only for apps that aren't available in the store.
